book foundation
Program
Do you have an idea for a book, but don’t know where to start? Do you have a draft that’s stalled out, or a manuscript that’s just not working? If so, check out the Book Foundation Program.
Lay the cornerstone for your book now.
Who the Book Foundation program works best for:
The Book Foundation Program is perfect for writers who need to build a strong structure beneath their story.
Maybe you're at the very beginning of a new project and want to start on solid ground. Maybe you've been drafting but feel lost in the weeds and need help seeing the bigger picture. Or maybe you've reached the end of a first draft only to realize something fundamental isn't quite working—and you're not sure what it is or how to fix it.
This program is designed to give you clarity and confidence by focusing on the three Ps of coaching: your project (what you're writing and why it matters), your pages (the craft and execution of your writing), and your process (how you work best and what will help you finish).
If you're ready to lay a foundation that will support your entire book, this is where you start.

What you’ll accomplish:
The Book Foundation Program uses the Blueprint for a Book system developed by Jennie Nash and taught through Author Accelerator, where Alissa is certified to coach. But we don't stop there—Alissa brings in additional craft exercises and techniques tailored to your specific project and goals.
Together, you'll:
Together, you'll:
- Discover your deep "why" – Why are you writing this story? What makes it matter to you? Understanding this will keep you going when the writing gets hard.
- Envision your book's future – We'll imagine where your book could go in the world—who it's for, how it fits into the marketplace—so you're thinking ahead from the very start.
- Nail down your structure – You'll explore your plot, decide on the shape of your story, and build a framework that supports the narrative you want to tell.
- Get inside your characters' heads – We'll dig deep into your main character(s)—their motivations, perspectives, and what makes them unforgettable.
- Create your Inside Outline – This is a flexible plot and character scaffold that will guide you through drafting and revision without boxing you in.
- Build a sustainable writing practice – We'll identify what actually works for you—not what you think you "should" be doing—and create habits that will last beyond our time together.
- Leave with a clear plan – By the end, you'll know exactly what comes next, whether that's continuing on your own or enrolling in further coaching to keep the momentum going.
The program includes:
- A Client Questionnaire to identify your priorities, goals, and what you want to accomplish with your book
- The complete Blueprint for a Book text and workbook—your roadmap for building a solid foundation
- Three personalized coaching calls:
- A 30-minute kickoff call to orient you to the coaching process and the Blueprint system
- A 45-minute midpoint call to check in on your progress and work through any questions or challenges
- A 45-minute final call to discuss what you've accomplished and create a clear plan for what comes next
- Three submission deadlines (spaced weekly or biweekly, depending on your pace) where you'll submit completed sections of your workbook
- Detailed in-text feedback on every section you submit, so you can see exactly what's working and where to dig deeper
- A short editorial letter (1–4 pages) for each submission, highlighting strengths and offering guidance on how to strengthen your foundation
- A written Next Steps Plan at the end of the program that maps out how to move your project forward with confidence
- Email support throughout to answer questions, troubleshoot challenges, and make sure you're getting the most out of our time together

I worked with Alissa as a coach when my story was hardly more than an idea and a starting point. Her process and guidance helped me determine where to go next, and also how to build out the rest of the idea.

My novel is still very much a work-in-progress. We haven’t yet fully resolved the major storyline and conflict and how that will drive the book and reach resolution, but I’m very close. The characters and what they want are becoming clearer. In our…foundational phase, I know I’ll get there.
