book foundations

Do you have an idea for a book, but don’t know where to start? Do you have a draft that’s stalled out, or a manuscript that’s just not working? If so, check out the Book Foundations Program.
Contact Alissa here to talk more about enrolling in the Book Foundations Program.

Who this program works best for:

Writers who want to set up a solid foundation for their book project. It’s ideal for writers at the start of a new project, for those who have started drafting but need help in planning and shaping their book, and for writers who reach the end of a first draft only to recognize that something fundamental isn’t working in their narrative. The Book foundations Program introduces writers to and focuses on the three Ps of coaching: your project, your pages, and your process.
What you’ll accomplish:
The Book Foundations Program uses the “Blueprint for a Book” system developed by Jennie Nash, which Alissa is certified to coach through Author Accelerator. We’ll also go beyond the Blueprint with additional craft exercises and techniques designed to:
  • Establish the deep why behind why you’re writing your story (this can help you keep writing when it gets tough)
  • Imagine your book’s future from the start (this gives you a head start when you’re ready to pursue publishing and lets you see how your book fits into the marketplace)
  • Decide on your story’s structure and explore your plot
  • Learn more about your main character(s) and their unique perspectives
  • Complete an Inside Outline, a flexible plot/character scaffold you can use throughout your writing process
  • Develop a sustainable writing practice that works for you during our work together and after
  • Create a plan for you to continue working on your book: either on your own, or with continued coaching support
The program includes:
  • One Client Questionnaire to identify your priorities and goals for your book
  • The full “Blueprint for a Book” text and accompanying workbook
  • Three coaching calls:
One 30-minute kickoff call to orient you to the coaching and Blueprint process
One 45-minute midpoint coaching call to check in on how everything is going
One 45-minute final coaching call to plan what comes next for you in your book writing process
  • Three submission deadlines (spaced weekly or biweekly), where you’ll send in your workbook answers
  • In-text feedback on each section of the workbook you submit
  • One short editorial letter (1-4 double spaced pages max) for each submission, covering what’s working and what could be stronger in your workbook.
  • One written Next Steps Plan that summarizes how to move your project forward
  • Email support throughout the coaching process to make sure you get the most out of our time together
Investment:
4-8 working weeks. $900.
